What are the sustainable options for clothes?

It might seem impossible that a single person can make a change to resolve climate change. In this project, I want to explore a way that all of us can do to decrease the issue - how our choice of daily garments can have an impact on the environment. This is a topic related to people from all walks of life because every one needs clothing.

During my initial research, I found that the fashion industry is the second-largest industrial polluter, accounting for 10 percent of annual global carbon emissions, even ranking higher than emissions from air travel. When factoring in the entire lifecycle of a garment, from manufacturing to transportation to, ultimately, ending up in landfill, 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon emissions are released by the fashion industry every year. What’s more, washing some types of clothes such as synthetic clothes made of polyester sends significant amount of microplastics into the ocean.
It starts to make me rethink my wardrobe and have a consideration of what I should buy in order to reduce the carbon footprint. Thus, for this project, I want to focus on the sustainable materials for producing clothes, such as recycled fabrics made with waste materials; plant-based fabrics that can absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) during the growth of plants, animal-based fabrics with ethical and sustainable sourcing.

The project will include 10 categories of future wear
made from eco-friendly materials that support a closed-loop system, which is a design and production method that works to keep clothes in circulation for as long as possible. In the website, the images of models wearing the garments are designed and created by the use of text-to-image AI Generator. Although the choice of fabrics is limited, I aim to make them as fashionable as possible but greener in the meantime.
